The process of production of the silver is articulated in different
phases, some common to all the products, other specific of the typology
of object realized.
Fusione: Inside the oven, to the temperature of 961°C, the
"Coppella" is united in league with the copper in varying percentages
according to the title, to realize some ingots of 2cm of thickness.
Laminazione: The silver ingots are turned into thin foils of
various thickness making them pass through two steel cylinders that,
rotating on itself, they work as a press.
Modellazione plastica: The silver foils follow different roads to
receive, according to the object that it is wanted to realize, one of
the phases of "Stampaggio", "Tornitura" or "Martellatura".
Stampaggio: Exploiting the strength of the machines and through
moulds in steel, it is given the form desired to the silver foilto later
finish up to hand. In this phase the silverwares are produced and above
all in smaller measure some types of china.
Tornitura: The foils already cut in oval form or circular are
worked to the lathe for the realization of trays and tray tables. The
turner chooses among wood and steel forms that more suitable, he settles
to the machine together with the silver disk and, with a speed of around
2000 turns to the minute, with a special tool he pulls the metal laying
down it on the form and avoiding that it damages itself.
Martellatura: In this phase the silver foil is entirely worked by
hand, beating it with a hammer to reach the desired form; in the end the
realized object showss on the whole surface a small trace of the tool,
typical feature of the manufactured article.
Sbalzo: Manual workmanship of the silver object where the reverse
of the manufactured article is beaten through an hammer , so as to
deform its external surface and to get in relief the desired decorum
(altorilievo)
Cesellatura: The silver object is filled to its inside with a mix
of pitch and other substances to confer a greater elasticity and
resistance to its surface. On the same one it is traced the drawing that
is desired to get to pencil and he proceeds to beat it with some steel
tools of different measures, “chisels”, to reproduce in bas-relief the
initial decorum.
Incisione: the surface of the object is engraved with a point of
sharp steel that, getting out a part of silver, makes the desired
drawing. The Engrave can be entirely worked by hand with the “Bulino” or
with another technique, the “Guilloché” that allows to create straight
or undulated lines, crossing which it's possible obtain many different
geometric drawings.
Assemblaggio: The different parts that compose the silver
manufactured article are settled among them, using a silver alloy with a
lower point of fusion and less of 500/1000.
Pulimentatura: In this step the object is cleaned by all the
residues left during the precendents workmanships through the use of
special brushes applied to rotating axle.
Argentatura: the manufactured article is immersed in a galvanic
bath and covered by a layer of pure silver, so that it confers it a
greater brightness.
Lucidatura: Final step of the process at the end of which, using
soft brushes and soaked of special substances, the silver assumes its
bright and lunar aspect. |
